Doris was born on August 28, 1940, in Sercy, Arkansas, the daughter of Rubert and Lorean Cotton Thompson.She graduated from North Little Rock High School in 1958, married and moved to West Columbia, SC. While in High School she enjoyed playing basketball and telling these stories all through her life.She was active in church as a Sunday School Teacher and playing Women’s Softball. Doris was active in and supported her husband, Gene by being a member of the Veterans Organizations he was a member of, being a Life Member of the VFW Auxiliary and the Marine Corps League as an Associate Member.Doris retired from Bell South in 1999 after 20 years of service. She will be missed by all who knew her. She was predeceased by her parents; sister, Reba; brothers, Harvey and Jerry.Doris is survived by her husband, Gene of the home; daughter, Doris Brumfield (John) of Cayce; son, Steve Shull of Columbia; daughter, Pam Wilbur of West Columbia; son, Mike (Kathy) of Columbia; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; brother, Richard (Gerry) of Jacksonville, AK. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at Southland Memorial Gardens, 700 W. Dunbar Road, West Columbia, SC 29170.Social distancing will be required along with face masks.
