Doris Allen Darden "Dee" Gunsalus passed away October 4, 2022 at Lexington Medical Center in West Columbia, SC after a short illness. Dee was born in Conway, SC on January 4, 1949 to John W. Darden, Jr. and Hannah Ross Smith Darden. She grew up in Conway and graduated from Conway High School in 1967. She attended the University of Georgia and University of South Carolina where she studied art. She finished her degree and graduated from Oswego State University in Oswego New York. She was married to Martin “Marty” Gunsalus of Long Island, New York for over fifty years. Dee worked as a graphic artist for several companies and was involved in many creative activities such as the Jubilee Arts Festival in Bennettsville, SC. She was active in St. Denis Catholic Church in Bennettsville for many years and helped plan and design the St. Ernest Mission Catholic Church in Pageland, SC. She enjoyed being a member of the Quail Valley Garden Club in Irmo, SC. and attended Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church in Columbia after moving to the Quail Valley community. Survivors include her husband Marty and her sister, Carolyn Karn of Bennettsville as well as a large number of nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. Both parents and her brother, John W. Darden III, predeceased her. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Temples-Halloran Funeral Home and there is a Guest Book on their website. A funeral mass with final services will be held at Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church, 120 Marydale Lane, Columbia, SC, on Friday, October 14, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. The family will greet friends from 9:00 to 9:50 prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that a donation be made to Catholic Charities in memory of Dee.
