Donald Allen "Don" Drozd

July 2, 1967 — January 1, 2023

Donald Allen “Don” Drozd passed away on January 1, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on July 2, 1967, in Dayton, OH, to Irene Rich Drozd and the late Charles John Drozd. Don was a 1985 graduate of Irmo High School. He earned a BA degree in Psychology and Behavioral Science from Cedarville University in 1989. While in college, he served as the Senior Class President and as the Chairman of the class’s Centennial Time Capsule gift to the University. (The time capsule is to be opened in 2037.) Don worked as a Personnel Manager for Richland Memorial Hospital for many years. He also worked for The Seibels Bruce Group, Inc for twenty-three and a half years as the Corporate Benefits Manager and served as interim Human Resources Director. Don was a loyal employee, sticking with them through the good times and the bad times. However, in the end, the same could not be said for the management after his cancer diagnosis. Don made many lifelong friends from church, school, and work. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church in West Columbia since the age of 9. He served on the Single Adult Ministry Team at Lexington Baptist Church for several years. He was privileged to serve as officiant for three marriages: co-workers, dear friends, and his nephew, Christopher. He was a special uncle to his nephews and nieces attending many life celebrations with a smile and wonderful personality. He loved to sing, mostly in the shower and car, but he enjoyed singing in the youth choir at Grace Baptist Church, and as an adult in two local productions of the Messiah. Don collected over 60 hymn books. He felt they were pieces of church and American history worth preserving. Don is survived by his mother and brothers: Charles “Chuck” E. Drozd (Joanie) and David J. Drozd (Susan) and nephews Jeff Drozd, Chris Drozd (Jenna), and Austin Drozd and nieces Jenn Drozd and Whitney Taylor (Robert). He is also survived by many wonderful and dear friends. Don was preceded in death by his father. The family, on behalf of Don, would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at South Carolina Oncology Associates. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Grace Baptist Church (416 Denham Avenue, West Columbia, SC 29169) or The South Carolina Oncology Associates (SCOA) Cares Foundation (166 Stoneridge Drive, Columbia, SC 29210). Services will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. at Grace Baptist Church, West Columbia. The family will greet friends beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will follow the service at Bush River Memorial Gardens, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212.
