Darrell Austin Sweeney

Darrell Austin Sweeney, 83, of Columbia, South Carolina, passed away on January 24, 2024. He was born on May 18, 1940 in Lexington, Kentucky. Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Flossie Sweeney and his brother, Ronald Sweeney. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joyce D. Sweeney; his daughter, Laura (Peter) Cevallos; his son, Craig (Shely) Sweeney; his sister, Una R. Sweeney; his grandchildren, Stephen, Amber, Taylor, Noah, Tabitha, and Jenna; and his great-grandchildren, Norah and Winston. Darrell graduated from West Milton High School in West Milton, Ohio, in 1958. After serving in the United States Army, he worked for Hobart for 42 years. He was a South Carolina Gamecocks fan and went to hundreds of football, basketball, and baseball games. Darrell was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 2, 2024 at Grace United Methodist Church, 410 Harbison Boulevard, Columbia, South Carolina, 29212, with Rev. Rett Haselden officiating. The family will greet friends after the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations in Darrell’s honor be made to Grace United Methodist Church.
