Craven DuBoyce Small, 87, of Greer, South Carolina, passed away August 23, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 8, 1931 in Marion, South Carolina; son of Everette Craven Small and Elma Jordan Small. He leaves behind his beloved wife, of 68 years, Emily Hayes Small. He also leaves behind his children; Olivia Gale Small, Susan Small Lucas, Amy Small Newton (Steve), Cindy Small Johnson (Larry), Michael DuBoyce Small (Kathleen), Lisa Small Petrakos (Steve); grandchildren; Kristie Frampton Grant (Mitch), John Edward Frampton Jr. (Lori), Christopher Allen Lucas, Andrew Scott Lucas (Carson), Steven Eric Newton (Kristilee), Matthew Scott Newton (Kristin), Lawrence Wilbur Johnson III (Jessie), Emily Ruth Johnson, Stephen Taylor Stambaugh (Caelin), Jordan Hayes Stambaugh, and Haley Elizabeth Stambaugh; great-grandchildren, Olivia, Thomas, and William Grant, John Edward Frampton III, Fay and Susie Lucas, Lee, Hayes, Ford, and Ruthie Newton, Addison, Presley, and Parker Newton, along with many nieces and nephews that he dearly loved. Mr. Small was predeceased by his parents, great-granddaughter, Averie Frampton, his brother, Dulen Small, and sister, Carolyn Pearce. He attended Campbell College. On September 12, 1950 DuBoyce married his sister’s best friend, his cherished wife, Emily Hayes in Duford, SC. He then served in the Air Force during the Korean War both in Korea as well as stateside; earning two bronze stars. CD Small worked at New South Life in Charleston, SC. Then became the Vice President of Sales for New South Life Insurance Company in Columbia, SC. He then became VP for Peninsula Life Insurance Company relocating for Jacksonville, FL. Craven retired to Greer SC, opening his own independent Life Insurance Agency on Stone Ave., Greenville, SC. He later relocated his agency to share office space with his son Michael in Taylors, SC. He retired in 2014 after 59 years in the insurance industry. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was a true patriarch in every sense of the word. His sense of humor, mischievous smile, twinkling eyes, and unconditional love for his family and those whose lives he touched will be missed by all who dearly loved him. He taught us by example to be kind, respectful, and to love one another. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 27, 2018 from 10:00- 11:00 a.m. and will be followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 at Covenant United Methodist Church, 1310 Old Spartanburg Road, Greer, South Carolina 29650.A private burial will be held in Columbia, South Carolina. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to: Lewy Body Dementia Association, 912 Killian Hill Road, S.W. Lilburn, Georgia 30047; or Open Arms Hospice of Simpsonville, 1836 W. Georgia Road, Simpsonville, South Carolina 29680.
