CHAPIN—On Monday evening, Clarence was called Home to join his loving wife, Vonnie.Born in Roanoke, Virginia, he was a son of the late Oliver Lee Martin and Hattie Sowers Martin.He proudly served his country in the United States Navy and then later the United States Marine Corp Reserves.During his working years he was employed by American Bridge Company and Owen Steel Company, where he was a draftsman specializing in steel construction projects.He later served as a freelance draftsman in steel construction projects.He was a Shriner at the Jamil Shriner Temple where he served in the Keystone Cops Unit.Mr. Martin also enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his family. Surviving are his daughter, Renee Martin Wiggins and her husband, Charles of Columbia; son, Rudy Lee Martin and his wife, Terri of Chapin; grandchildren, Chuck Wiggins and Stephanie Simmons and two great-grandchildren; sister, Frances M. Brown of Vicksburg, Mississippi and brother, Wallace Martin and his wife, Becky of Myrtle Beach, along with his loving companion, Melba Jean Wright of Columbia.He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna “Vonnie” Martin in 1998. Funeral services for Clarence R. Martin, 84, of Chapin will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 6, 2015 at the Bush River Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212. Entombment will follow in the Bush River Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.Reverend Christine Parham will officiate. The family will greet friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, February 5, 2015 at Temples Halloran Funeral Home, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212.
