Charles Gary Sullivan of Lexington, went to be with our beloved mother while being surrounded by each of his loving children.
Gary was born in Oakley, Idaho on September 22, 1935 and graduated high school from Oakley Academy. Gary served his country in the Airforce for 4 years and was stationed at Shaw Air Force Base when he met and married the love of his life, Betty Rose Lee on December 6, 1958. They had 5 children, Rene’ Shull (Wayne), John Sullivan (Amy), Tara Amick Young, (Roger), Gina Mahoney (Danny), Carl Sullivan (Sandra). The grandchildren are: Erin Shull Hynum (Daniel), Meghan Shull Blackburn (Nick), Becca Sullivan, Logan Sullivan (Amanda), Alexandra Amick, Bailey Amick Jaramillo (Nestor), Shannon Mahoney Cottrell (Thomas), Maggie Mahoney, Daniel Mahoney, Cara Sullivan Branham (Dustin) Zac Sullivan, Napoleon (Brianna), Paris Richardson. Great-grandchildren: Rigdon Hynum, Clara Hynum, Addisyn Blackburn and Ellamie Branham, Leeloo Branham, Dustin Branham, Jr., Levi Cottrell
After they married, Gary joined NCR in Columbia, SC as a computer field engineer and was a dedicated employee for 35 years until he retired. Gary then worked 10 years for the Lexington County Administrative building as an IT technician. Gary was a member of the Lexington Lions Club where he held several posts including serving as president in 2011-2012. Gary also served many years as a Gideon. Gary and Betty raised their family at Lexington Baptist Church and later became faithful members of Lexington Presbyterian Church. Gary loved his birthplace and frequently visited southern Idaho to see his family. Gary took his family on many memorable trips out west. Gary restored a 1930 model A (woody) and volunteered to drive friends and family members through countless parades, weddings and special events. Gary was known for his impeccable (dry) humor.
Gary was the youngest son of John L. Sullivan and Iva Scharling Sullivan, both deceased. He is survived by his younger sister Paddeene Sullivan Lippolis and was predeceased by his older brothers Grant Logan Sullivan, Jack Scharling Sullivan, Bill W. Sullivan, Jim Kennedy Sullivan, and Hal Eugene Sullivan
A Celebration of Life for Gary will be held on Friday, February 21st at 3:00pm at Lexington Presbyterian Church (246 Barr Road, Lexington, SC 29072). Family and friends will be received at a Reception/Visitation immediately following at Tomlin Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to Lexington Presbyterian Church “Faith, Promise, Giving” Fund. Memorials can also be made to the Lexington Lions Club.
