Charles Edward Spangler, Sr., 91, of Lexington, entered eternal life on Saturday, August 28th, 2021. He was born May 9, 1930, in Shelby, NC to the late Joseph Spangler Sr and Gertrude Moore Spangler. Chuck was a veteran US Army stationed in Berlin, Germany during the Korean War era. Chuck worked for Retail Credit Company for many years before starting his own Sporting Goods business, along with his late wife Norma Dennis Spangler. Together they ran this business and were very active in ASA softball, traveling extensively. Chuck was Umpire In Chief of the American Softball Association and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1992. He ran the Pontiac softball complex and hosted hundreds of tournaments over the years. Chuck was known for his charismatic personality; full of laughter, jokes, and sharing stories. He was kind and gentle and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his sons, Ched Spangler (Debbie) and Rion Spangler (Darlene); daughter Pam Zemp (John); 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; 4 brothers-in-law, 2 sisters-in-law, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews whom he loved dearly. Those who preceded him in death besides his parents were his beloved wife of 67 years; Norma Dennis Spangler, brothers; Joseph Spangler, Jr (Catherine), Tom Spangler (Earle), Max Spangler (Louise), and his youngest child, Gary Joseph. The funeral service for Chuck and a joint celebration of life for he and Norma will be held on Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at 11 a.m. at St. Andrews Baptist Church, 230 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29210.The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service at the church.A double inurnment for Mr. and Mrs. Spangler will be held at 1:00 p.m. in Fort Jackson National Cemetery.The Reverend Dr. Ronald “Dee” Vaughan will officiate. In lieu of flowers, you may send donations to St. Andrews Baptist Church, 230 Bush River Road, Columbia SC 29210.
