COLUMBIA—Funeral services for Charles George Samellas, 83, of Columbia, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 27, 2018, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 1910 Main Street, Columbia, SC 29201 with Reverend Father Michael A. Platanis, Father Peter Telencio and Father Chrysostom Mitchell officiating. Burial with military honors in Bush River Memorial Gardens. The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Thursday, April 26, 2018, at Temples Halloran Funeral Home, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212. Trisagion prayers will be at 6:30 p.m. Mr. Samellas, the beloved husband of Katherine Crones Samellas and loving father and grandfather, passed away on Sunday, April 22, 2018.Born in Boston,MA he was the son of the late George and Penelope Phillips Samellas. Charles was a proud US Marine and served in the Korean War. He was owner and operator of Granby’s Ice Cream and Sandwich Shop in downtown Columbia for over 16 years. Charlie was instrumental in helping his son, George starts his own business, Greek Boys located in downtown Columbia.He was a devoted member of Holy Trinity Greek OrthodoxCathedral,the AHEPA Organization, the Delta Masonic Lodge and Grand Lodge in Massachusetts. Surviving in addition to his wife of 56 years, Katherine Samellas of Columbia; son, George Charles Samellas of Columbia; daughter, Andrea Judy (Kenneth) of Woodbridge, VA; brother, Nick Phillips of Conyers, GA; grandchildren, RJ and Ella Samellas, Collin, Austin and Raegan Judy. Preceded in death are a brother, Creton Samellas, and sister, Mary S. Solakian.
