A gathering celebrating the life of Charles L. McClure, 78, of Columbia, will be held on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, in the Chapel of Temples-Halloran Funeral Home, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, South Carolina, 29212, at 12:00 p.m. The burial will be held on Friday, January 27, 2023, at the Blue Ridge Church of the Brethren in Blue Ridge, Virginia. Charles was born on January 27, 1944, in Roanoke, Virginia, and departed this earthly life on January 18, 2023. He was the son of the late Lacy Charles and Shirley Lilly McClure. Charles retired from Norfolk Southern Railway Lines after 36 years of dedicated service. His passions in life included hunting, fishing, woodcarving, and fine hand carving. He was a 32° Mason and a member of Seven Oaks Presbyterian Church. Charles was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Kenneth McClure. Surviving family members include his loving wife of 58 years: Germaine S. McClure; daughters: Andrea Meyers (Michael) of Virginia and Angela Hayes (Jim) of Michigan; sons: Jeff McClure (Elizabeth) of Indiana and Matt McClure (Keely) of South Carolina; sister: Doris Orr (Dick) of Tennessee; brother: Cottie McClure (Donna) of Virginia; sister-in-law: Debbie McClure of Virginia; and nine grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials are made in Charles’ honor to Shriners Hospitals for Children, Attn: Office of Development, 2900 N. Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL, 33607, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105, or a charity or organization of your choice.
