Catherine W. Kimrey A memorial service for Catherine (Cay) W. Kimrey, 89, of Irmo will be held Saturday, December 30, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Gateway Baptist Church, 1651 Dutch Fork Road, Irmo, S.C. 29063.The Reverend Ronald Flynn and Student Minister Kevin Miller will officiate.The family will receive friends from 10:00-10:45 at the church prior to the service. Born in Ellsworth, Michigan, on December 1, 1928, Catherine passed away on December 27, 2017.She was the daughter of the late John Wieland and Mary Weber Wieland. Cay spent her early years in Ellsworth.Her family later moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan where she graduated from Caledonia Township High School.Shortly after graduation, she met and married Wilson (Bill) M. Kimrey.They resided in Phenix City, Alabama while Bill served in the U.S. Army.They eventually moved to Columbia, SC where they raised their 3 children. She graduated from Midlands Technical College with honors.She later attended The University of South Carolina where she received her BA in English and her Masters in Religious Studies.Both with honors.She retired from SC Department of Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Services as the Director of Personnel. She was a member of Gateway Baptist Church, Ballentine, SC where she was active with the Ladies Morning Prayer Group and Flynn Life Group.She was also a member of the Riverland Hills Baptist Church Joy Club and previous Crossroad Bible Study groups. Her interests were as wide as the list of her activities is long.She was a member of the YMCA's Aroebic Class, Silver Sneakers and Swim Team.She enjoyed painting, sculpting, pottery, tennis, gardening, writing, and sewing.She was an avid reader and read her Spanish Bible every morning to maintain her Spanish.Her travels included several trips to the Holy Land and Canada and tours of Great Britain, The Carribbean and Alaska.She was a gifted baker and decorator and shared these talents by decorating gingerbread Santa's each year for her grandchildren.She was an avid football fan and never missed her son's Friday night games. Surviving are daughters, Mary Kimrey Miller and Barbara Kimrey Sellers, both of West Columbia; a son, Wilson M. (Bill) Kimrey and wife Penny Stier Kimrey of Irmo.Grandchildren, Jeri Miller Barbo and husband Tim, Jamison Kimrey Miller and wife Trisha , Julie Suzanne Miller, Jeffrey Wayne Miller and wife Elizabeth, Joseph Roger Miller and wife Michelle, Joanne Miller Holt, Wilson M. (Bill) Kimrey III and wife Dulcinea, Erik Lawrence Kimrey and wife Erica, Kevin Stier Kimrey, Kyle Charles Kimrey and wife MaryAshley; great grandchildren, Carley Miller Butler and husband Troy, Cadence Elizabeth Miller, Timothy Barbo, Brian Barbo, Lilli Barbo, Kevin Miller and wife Danielle, Ashley Miller, Jordan Miller, Alexis Miller, Samantha Miller, Cathlyn D. Kimrey, Karis P. Kimrey, Titus Wilson Kimrey, Elias Kimrey.Those who preceded her in death besides her parents are grandsons John Allen Miller and Wilson M. Kimrey IV.
