COLUMBIA—Carolyn Halford Green, 93, of Columbia, widow of Julius Green, passed away on December 14, 2017.Born in Charleston, South Carolina, she was the daughter of Richard Eugene and Henrietta Levy Halford.She was also predeceased by her brother, Raymond Halford.Carolyn is survived by son, Marc Green; son, Gene Green and daughter-in-law, Lois Sulser Green; and beloved grandson, Josh Green, all of Columbia, SC. Her parents, both of whom served in combat zones in France during World War I, settled in Columbia after the war where Carolynnattended Dreher High School and the University of South Carolina.She met her New Jersey born future husband while she was serving as a clerk at Fort Jackson during World War II.After they were married and initially settling in New York City following Army discharge, Carolyn emphatically announced to her new husband that heir home would be in South Carolina.Their next 60 years were spent together in Columbia and Seabrook Island. Carolyn’s soft spoken yet determined manner was evident in her numerous volunteer activities at Providence Hospital; with organizations supporting the developmentally disabled; and a variety of community projects on Seabrook Island.Her favorite charity was the Woodyard Fund.Her family requests that in lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Woodyard Fund, c/o The Salvation Army, PO Box 2786, Columbia, SC 29202. Graveside services will be held at Hebrew Benevolent Society Cemetery, Blanding Street between Wayne Street and Gadsden Street in downtown Columbia at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 17, 2017.Temples Halloran Funeral Home will be assisting the family.
