Carol Clark Gentry, 87, of Columbia, SC, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 13, 2021. Her memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 5, 2021, at 2 pm at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Columbia. Carol was born April 13, 1934, in Fairmont, West Virginia, daughter of the late Wyndham Stokes Clark and Elizabeth Timberlake Clark. She graduated from Converse College in Spartanburg, where she was also one of the first female cheerleaders at Wofford College.Ever dedicated to helping others in her community, she worked at the University of South Carolina’s College of Social Work and volunteered through Trinity Episcopal, the Junior League, the March of Dimes, and teaching swimming. She traveled the four corners of the globe, but her favorite holiday was coastal South Carolina with her family. She was a friendly, fun-loving, and feisty redhead with a gorgeous smile, always ready for a laugh. She always remembered to count her many blessings, despite life’s challenges. But more than anything, she was a generous and caring soul who deeply loved and supported her friends and family. Her robust spirit will be sorely missed. She is survived by her children Clark and Lisa (Yves); her grandchildren, Jackson (Marisa), Cody (Caroline), Patrick, Shelby, Luc, and Philippe; her great-grandchildren Porter, Quinn, and Hazel; her brother, Shelby Clark (Jeanne), many beloved nieces, nephews and godchildren. She was predeceased by her brother, Wyndham Stokes Clark, Jr., her son, Michael Alan Gentry, and her former spouse, Oscar Alan Gentry, III.
