COLUMBIA—Funeral services for Boyce Jones, 88, of Columbia, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, August 24, 2014, at Boyce Chapel of First Baptist Church of Columbia,1306Hampton Street, Columbia, SC 29201.Reverend Dennis Banks will officiate.Burial will follow in Bush River Memorial Gardens with military honors. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons. The family will greet friends from 4-6 p.m. Saturday, August 23, 2014, at Temples Halloran Funeral Home, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212. Mr. Jones, beloved husband of 67 years to Frances Jones, passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2014.Born in Greenville, he was the son of the late Oliver Kay Jones and Ethel Hunt Jones. He grew up in Greenville, SC, where he was a graduate of Greenville High School, Class of 1942.He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theater.He was a radio operator during his wartime service.Following his naval service, he attended Clemson University and graduated in the class of 1949.He began his career with Southern Bell, then Bell South, and retired with 37 years of service in various engineering roles throughout the southeast United States.Boyce was a longtime member, 42 years, of the First Baptist Church of Columbia. He was a member of the BARACA and Open Book Sunday school classes. Surviving are his wife, Frances Jones, sons, Johnny Jones and wife, Helen, of Macon, GA, Jack Jones and wife, Ellen, of Athens, GA, and Larry Jones and wife, Becky, of Columbia, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his brother, Edwin Jones. Memorials may be made in Boyce’s honor to First Baptist Church of Columbia, 1306 Hampton Street, Columbia, SC 29201.
