Blanche Gwynn Davis Scoggins

Blanche Gwynn Davis Scoggins, 95, of Columbia, passed away on Friday, May 19, 2023. She was born on November 5, 1927, in Greene County, Georgia, to Joe Sidney Davis, Sr., and Carrie Delilah Holcomb Davis. Blanche was a graduate of Sparta High School in Sparta, Georgia, and Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville, Georgia. She taught school in Atlanta, Georgia, until she married the love of her life on July 7, 1957. Blanche then became a devoted homemaker for her husband and children. She was a loving mother and grandmother. Blanche was a member of First Baptist Church of Columbia for over 60 years. She was a Christian lady with strong faith and a strong love of the Lord. She was an excellent seamstress and taught sewing for many years. Blanche is survived by her children, Sidney Scoggins, Cecil Scoggins (Cathy), and Beth Lesesne (George). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Marcus Killian Abbott and Stephanie Padgett, and her great-grandchildren, Matthew Abbott, Jacob Abbott, Carson Padgett, Walker Padgett, Levi Padgett, and Lainey Padgett (Due in August). Her sister, Mary Frances Abernathy, and her sister-in-law, Phyllis Davis also survive her along with numerous nieces and nephews and her honorary granddaughter, Suzanne Montgomery. Blanche was predeceased by her husband, James B. Scoggins; her parents; a grandson, Joshua Abbott; and siblings, Joe Davis, Jr., Louise Arrington, Martha Mixon, and Billy Davis. The family sends a special thank you to all her caregivers for the loving care they provided during the last few months. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2023, at 2:00 p.m., in Bush River Memorial Gardens (5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212). The Reverend Randy Hurtt and the Reverend Dennis Banks will officiate. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Temples-Halloran Funeral Home.
