COLUMBIA—On October 21, 2015, Billy Scoggins Putnam went to his heavenly home.He was born April 28, 1950 to Bill and Imogene Scoggins Putnam and was married to Marianne Hatton-Putnam for 23 years.Marianne loved Billy with all of her heart, and his departure from this world will leave a significant hole in her life. Anyone who knew Billy would tell you he was a kind and humble man.He had a huge heart for others in need and his actions did his talking.He was faithfully involved with Families Helping Families for over 20 years and always gave his time and money to this effort. Billy was a mortgage banker for 31 years.He loved the challenge of getting the job done and was highly esteemed in the industry.For the last 7 years he was the owner and manager of RentMax, a residential property management company. Billy was an active member of First Baptist Church of Columbia.He served as an usher for the last 9 years and was a member of the Transformers Sunday School class. Billy was known for his great sense of humor, dry wit, and his avid love of sports.He officiated high school football for 17 years in Georgia and South Carolina.He graduated from USC with a degree in business and finance and he was Gamecock to the bone. One of Billy’s biggest priorities was being a father to his sons, Greg Putnam (Christina), Monty Putnam (Rachel), Jackson Hatton Jr. (Jessica) and Gerald Hatton (Patience).He had a great love for all of them and family was very important. He will be missed by so many including his sons and daughters-in-law, his sister Lynn Richardson (Kenny), his 5 grandchildren, his dad, Bill Putnam (Marie) and nieces and nephews.He is pre-deceased by his mother and one son, Jackson Hatton Jr. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Global Outreach International and specify Costa Rica, in appreciation for their love and assistance at the time of Billy’s death, Global Outreach International, P.O. Box 1 Tupelo, MS38802. Funeral services for Billy Scoggins Putnam, 65, of Columbia, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at the First Baptist Church of Columbia, 1306 Hampton Street, Columbia, SC 29201.Burial will be private.The family will greet friends following the service at the church.
