Betty Sharpe Dent

Betty Sharpe Dent, 92, of Columbia, passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 2023. She was born in Chester on July 22, 1930, and was the daughter of William Edward Sharpe and Lula Ellisor Sharpe. She was the loving wife of John M. Dent, Sr. with whom she shared seventy-two years of marriage. Early in their marriage, John taught Betty to dance, and she became an accomplished shagger. She was great cook and an even better shopper. Betty and John traveled all over the United States. Betty also enjoyed loving on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a long-time member of Eau Claire Baptist Church. Besides her husband, Betty is survived by her daughter, Theresa Blatt (Patrick), and her sons, John M. Dent, Jr. (Janice) and Steve Dent. Her memory will be treasured by her three adoring children. She is survived by seven grandchildren, Jeremy Davis; Justin Davis (Janet); Chelsea Hein; Ryan Dent; Jessica Yarborough; Corey Dent; and Nicole Dent and five great-grandchildren, Sydney; Blakely; Tristan; Bentley; and Talon. Betty’s brother, Thurmond Sharpe (Barbara), also survives her. She was preceded in death by eight of her siblings. A funeral service for Betty will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 20, 2023, in the Chapel of Temples-Halloran Funeral Home (5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212). The service will be followed by interment in Bush River Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. The family would like to thank Lutheran Hospice for their exceptional and loving care of our Mother and the wonderful support provided to our family.
