COLUMBIA:Betty Jo Wright Davis, 89, died on October 12, 2018 in Columbia after a long illness.Born on March 15, 1929 in Sweetwater, TN, she was the daughter of George F. and Willie Brown Wright.She attended nine different schools in East Tennessee and was a graduate of Oak Ridge High School. Following graduation, she worked at McCrory stores in Oak Ridge as the secretary to the District Manager.Both were transferred to Columbia, where she met and married John G. Davis, Jr.She lived in the Eau Claire Community and was the school nurse at Heyward Gibbes School. She and her family later moved to Irmo. She was a member of Main Street UMC where she was an active member of the Susanna Wesley Ladies Class and also a member of the “Magnifiers” Senior Choir.She taught kindergarten at the Main St. UMC Day Care and later at Timmerman School.She was successful in all of her endeavors, being energetic and enjoying life and it’s challenges.She will be missed by her many friends. She is survived by her husband, John G. Davis, Jr.; sons, Charles S. (Jan), James A. (Eleanor Mahnken), Joseph G. (Melanie); grandchildren, Lauren Ward (Bryan), Leigh Anne Sansbury (Brock), Janie Ambrose (Russell), Johanna Davis, Landon J. Davis (Meredith), Tammy Pounds Beagen (Brian); great-grandchildren, Emmeline Ambrose, Lyle Ward, William and Andrew Davis, Frank Beagen; Brothers William F. Wright (Shirley), Ronnie Ray Wright; Sister Susie Cordray (Larry) as well as numerous nieces and nephews. As well as her former daughter-in-law, Annette Davis.She was predeceased by her parents, brother George Fredrick Wright and a sister Emma Ruth Wright. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at 2:15 p.m. in the Chapel of Bush River Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with Rev. Joe Cal Watson officiating.The visitation will be held at Temples Halloran Funeral, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SCat 1:00-2:00 PM, on the day of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Main Street United Methodist Church, 1830 Main Street, Columbia, SC 29201.
