Mrs. Betty Jean Baker, 85, of Columbia, SC, passed away at home on October 30, 2024, after an extended period of declining health. Born on June 18, 1939, in Thurmond, NC (Surry County), she was the daughter of the late Tommy Callaway and Ruth Smith Callaway. She was a Christian and member of Gateway Baptist Church in Ballentine, SC. Mrs. Baker enjoyed crocheting, walking at the mall, fellowship with friends and family and spending time in the mountains of North Carolina. Surviving is her husband of 65 years, David Baker; daughter, Katherine Loging (Richard Jr.) of Lexington, SC; brother, Larry Callaway of Elkin, NC; sisters, Wanda Blackburn of Lexington, SC; Kathryn Toner of Tobaccoville, NC and Edna Azelton of King, NC; grandson, Daniel Loging of Edisto Beach, SC; granddaughter, Rachel Loging of Lexington, SC. Betty was predeceased by her son, Roger Baker of Columbia, SC; brothers, Billy Callaway of Thurmond, NC, and Jesse T. Callaway of Wilmington, DE. The family will receive friends at 1:00pm on Monday, November 4th, 2024, in the Chapel of Temples-Halloran Funeral Home, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, South Carolina, 29212. Services will be held at 2:00pm in the Chapel with interment to follow in Bush River Memorial Gardens.
