A celebration of life service for Barbara M. Smith, 84, of Raleigh, will be held at Temples-Halloran Funeral Home Chapel, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, on Thursday, August 25th, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. The service will be officiated by Reverend Jody Flowers of Chapin United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Mrs. Smith passed away on August 20, 2022 and was born in Columbia, South Carolina. She was the widow of William S. Smith and the daughter of the late Robert T. Moore and Erma Lyda Moore. She was preceded in death by her sister, Judith Hardin of Newberry, South Carolina. Barbara, known to many friends as “Bobby," was a member of the Chapin United Methodist Church; a member of the Genesis Sunday School Class; a 1956 graduate of Irmo High School; and a 1959 graduate of Columbia Hospital School of Nursing. Early in her career, she was the first Occupational Health Nurse for the Torrington Company in Clinton, South Carolina; a position she held for 5 years. She was on the staff of the Laurens County Hospital for 14 years. Barbara retired in 2003 from the South Carolina Department of Mental Health as a Registered Nurse. After retirement, Barbara resided in Chapin, South Carolina, until her husband, Bill, passed away. She moved to a retirement community in Raleigh, North Carolina, to be nearer to her daughter, Amy. She loved her new friends and her cats but also missed her friends at Chapin United Methodist Church. She passed away peacefully at Morningside of Raleigh Assisted Living, where she had resided for the past 4 years. Barbara is survived by her daughters, Laurie (Gregg) Burrer of Hosmer, SD, and Amy (Bobby) Creech of Raleigh, NC; special nephew, Chris Hardin of Little Mountain, SC; and niece, Marguerite Hardin of Elgin, SC.
