Barbara Humphries Dovell

Barbara Humphries Dovell, 79, of West Columbia, passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2017 surrounded by her family. A native of Darlington, S.C., Barbara was the daughter of Fred Eugene Humphries and Kathleen Webb Humphries. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Dovell, sisters Betty Sanders and Sally Warren. Mrs. Dovell was a member of Gateway Baptist Church in Irmo.Barbara worked for Bellsouth Business Systems in Columbia for over 30 years and was always dressed to impress.Following her retirement, Barbara enjoyed working for the YMCA of Columbia. Her joys of life included her family, traveling, and visiting the beach. Survivors include daughters Michelle Kelly Cowsert of Irmo and Janet Kelly Safran (Michael) of Columbia; a sister, Susan Iseman (Johnnie) of Darlington; a brother, Henry Humphries (Ann) of Darlington; grandchildren, K.D. Safran and Alex Safran of Columbia and Maddie Cowsert and Molly Cowsert of Irmo; a nephew, Ed Byrd; and special friend, Deloris Scurry. A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Bush River Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, 5400 Bush River Road Columbia, S.C. 29212 with a visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m.The family asks that any memorials be made to the charity of their choice.
