COLUMBIA—Arnold was born baby boy Barton on March 1, 1932 in Flint, Michigan, and was adopted on the same day by Pearl McKay and Robert Wesley Taylor. Educated in the public schools of Flint, Michigan, Arnold joined the United States Navy and served for four years, during the Korean Conflict.He earned degrees from Michigan State University and Utah State University and was an educator for many years. Arnold lived largely in the world of ideas and in retirement, was working on a Patient/Physician Partnership, in hopes of restoring the patient-physician relationship free of governmental and business interference.This was done because of the high esteem in which he held his life-saving physicians and his fear that their autonomy was being eroded. Arnold is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Mary Lou Neu Taylor of Columbia; sons, Eric Jon Taylor of Atlanta, GA and Joel Ross Taylor of Greenville, SC; daughters-in-law, Jani, Julie and Peggy Taylor; grandchildren, Ian Michael, Alyssa Renee, Julia Erin, Justin Joel, Samuel Eric, Madison Ann, and Emily Breci Taylor.He will be missed by his honorary daughters, Melissa Brown Genova and her family and Marie Gale and her family. Arnold was a member of Seven Oaks Presbyterian Church, 530 St. Andrews Road, Columbia, SC 29210, where a service will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. The Reverend Alice Odell will officiate. Burial will follow on Friday, June 26, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in Ft. Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC 29229. The family will greet friends from 6-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at Temples Halloran Funeral Home, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212. Memorials may be made to the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews, P.O. Box 96105, Washington, DC 20090-6105.
