Ann King Rogers Bishop, 86, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 2, 2025. Born on October 3, 1938 in Church Hill, Tennessee, Ann was the daughter of Harry and Lochiel Netherland Rogers. Her sweet Southern charm, endless patience, boundless love and kindness, and compassion towards others made anyone who knew her feel special. She was generous with her time, always had a listening ear, gave great advice, had a gentle touch, and a truly open heart.
Ann graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Speech Language Pathology from East Tennessee State University. She dedicated her career to Special Needs Education and through her work touched many lives in Johnson City, Tennessee and in Columbia, South Carolina. She loved her work, loved her students, and cherished the friendships of the wonderful teachers she met throughout her career, especially at Irmo Elementary.
While at ETSU, she was set up on a blind date that led to a 66-year love story with her soulmate, Houston. They shared a life that most can only dream of experiencing; a life of love, of respect, of laughter, and of family. Ann loved family and was happiest surrounded by those she loved unconditionally. She and Houston loved to play bridge and travel, whether by themselves, with friends, or with their children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren. The memories and stories from trips to the mountains, beaches, overseas, or a family favorite cruise to the Bahamas will forever bring smiles and laughs.
On her 80th birthday, we gave her a poster titled "80 Reasons We Love You". Each of us shared our favorite Ann/Mom/Gram story that touched our lives. We were limited to 80 reasons because of the birthday, but could have written 180 or 1080 reasons. She made everyone feel valued and understood.
For the past twenty years, she has been a member of Mt Horeb Methodist Church in Lexington, SC. Ann loved the Lord and found a home at Mt Horeb. Through her grandson, Ashton, she continued to be active in the special-needs community.
Ann is survived by her beloved husband, Houston, and three of her four children, Cynthia, Jennifer (Mark), and Matthew (Kimberly). She was preceded in death by her youngest daughter, Amy. Ann was blessed with seven grandchildren: Patrick, Johan (Cecilia), Heather, Emily, Adam, Zachary, Anna (Annie),and Ashton. She was Grammy to five great-grandchildren: Collin, Hayes, Stella, Reese, and Emerson.
