COLUMBIA—Funeral services for Reverend Alvin D. Bozard, 89, of Columbia, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, December 11, 2015 at Temples Halloran Funeral Home Chapel, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212.Reverend Cliff Satterwhite and Mr. Barry Edwards will officiate.Entombment will follow in Bush River Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with military honors.The family will greet friends from 2-3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Born in St. Matthews, SC, he was the son of the late John Emmett Bozard and Felicia Austin Bozard.He proudly served his country during World War Two in the United States Army where he was awarded the Victory Medal.He was a member of Riverland Hills Baptist Church. Alvin had a passion for sharing Jesus and discipling others. One of his early pastorates was Broad River Baptist. Throughout South Carolina, he was the interim pastor at many churches. He loved telling his "NIKE" story to anyone who was wearing NIKE apparel. His love for history fueled his love of learning. One of his favorite pastimes was reading scripture, especially his Greek New Testament. He loved sharing scripture with everyone. Alvin was also a guidance counselor and social studies teacher. Being an encouragement to others was a gift he enjoyed sharing. He and his wife, Rose, had several foster sons that he treated as his own. Another hobby he had was quilting. It was fascinating watching him put fabrics together and see a masterpiece unveil from his work. Alvin also enjoyed working in his yard. Every spring, people would stop by to tell him how much they enjoyed seeing all of the beautiful flowers in his yard. Alvin loved baking cakes to take to gatherings, especially his pound cakes and coconut pineapple cake. Surviving are his daughter, Donna Rose Cox (William) of Columbia; grandchildren, Celeste Back (Allen) of NYC, Brittany Buchanan (Eric) of Lexington, SC; sister, Clara B. McCullough (Elmer) of Cayce. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Bozard who died in 2009; three sisters, Atheleta, Myrtis, and Thelma; 7 brothers, Harvey, Durwood, Cloyce, Clifford, Leroy, Hoyt, and Beverly. The family would like to thank the staff of Agape Hospice House on Stoneridge for their compassionate care in his final days.
