Althea M. Jones, 93, of Topsham, Maine passed away on Thursday, August 15, 2024 at her home in the company of her loving family. Althea was born in Tioga, Illinois on May 19, 1931, daughter of Elmer and Harriet (Dooley) Brookshire. Althea was married to the love of her life Tom Jones in 1948. She went on to raise five self-reliant children over the course of her 57-year marriage to her childhood sweetheart who passed in 2005. Over the course of her life, she raised her family in Illinois, California and South Carolina and finally Maine to be near the watchful eye of her only daughter. Over her life, Althea worked at various jobs to help support her family, she was especially good at working in Grocery, in her later years she and her husband opened their own commercial greenhouse, “Mill Creek Greenhouses” in Columbia, South Carolina. She was predeceased by her two sisters, Margie and Grace and her half-brother Fred. She was also predeceased by her husband, Dr. Thomas L. Jones and her son, Robert. Althea is survived by her sons; Thomas Jones Jr. and his wife Vickie, William Jones and his wife JoAnne, Stanley Jones and his wife Jeonghee and a daughter Susan Caron and her husband Edward. She is also survived and blessed with 11 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren. Burial is 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, South Carolina 29209. The Reverend David Anderson will be officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to the Topsham Firefighter’s Association, 100 Main Street, Topsham, ME 04086.
