COLUMBIA—Alma Lake peacefully passed away at the Lowman Home on October 6, 2016.She was born on August 14, 1928 to the late Bertha and Asa Bowers and was the widow of Grover E. Lake.She lived in the Stony Hill section of Newberry until she married and relocated to Columbia in 1945.At that time she became a member of College Place United Methodist Church where she was an active member of the United Methodist Women and the Fellowship Sunday School class. Surviving are her daughters, Judy L. Lowder of Columbia and Joyce L. Prince (Michael) of Irmo.She was preceded in death by her son, Kenneth R. Lake; her daughter-in-law, Sherry Lake; and son-in-law, Rodney Lowder.She and Grover left a legacy of 8 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. A memorial service for Alma will be held Sunday, October 9, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at College Place United Methodist Church, 4801 Colonial Drive, Columbia, SC 29203, with the Reverend Mary Johnson officiating. Visitation will follow immediately after the service in the church fellowship hall.Temples Halloran Funeral Home is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to College Place United Methodist Church. The family would like to express their appreciation to the Heritage at Lowman for the loving care they gave Alma while she was a resident there.
