Alison Fraser Dunham

July 9, 1971 — September 21, 2020

The family of Alison Claire Fraser Dunham of Columbia, SC is deeply saddened by her passing on September 21, 2020. Beloved daughter of Drs. James and Joanne Fraser, sister to brothers James, and John, and proud mother of three wonderful young men: Grant, Josh, and Nick. Fearless, loving, intelligent, enthusiastic, gregarious and loyal from childhood on – Alison lived with a Bipolar condition for most of her adult life. And despite that recurring struggle, she applied herself to various roles during her working career and time as an Army Wife and Mother, pursuing what she loved most – helping those in need. ● Alison graduated from the Honors College of USC with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science. ● In Hoke County NC, Alison worked as Director of the local Habitat for Humanity building homes. And authoring the “Habitat Handbook” a resource for new home owners. ● While in Heidelberg Germany, Alison worked with the DoD Central Command facilitating the transfer of wounded warriors back to appropriate units in the USA. ● In DeRidder LA, she worked as Education Director of Beauregard Parish day-care and after-school programs – obtaining funding for and improving educational programs for children. ● She served as a certified FEMA Volunteer during the aftermath of hurricanes Katrina and Rita assisting evacuees with housing and FEMA applications. ● Since moving back to Columbia, she helped retired Vietnam Veterans navigate their medical care with the VA. We remember Alison for the good causes she dedicated herself to, the joy and love she gave, and her genuine, one-of-a-kind spirit that will forever remain in our hearts.
