Alease Bass Compton, 89, formerly of Hendersonville, NC, died March 29, 2018, in Columbia, SC. She was a native of Sampson County and had lived in Henderson County from 1970 until recently. She was the eighth of thirteen children ofLonnie and Tempie Bass.She attended Clinton High School, graduating first in her class.She went on to graduate from Wake Forrest University in 1951.She was a teacher in the NC schools for 38 years.She was the 1980-81 Henderson County Teacher of the Year.She was a member of First Baptist Church.She was a devoted mother and loving grandmother. She was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Joseph B. Compton; sisters, Crotia Blanchard and Irma Peterson; brothers, Burnice Bass, Newberry Bass, Crafton Bass, Johnson Bass, Howard Bass and Shelton Bass. She is survived by two daughters, Kimberly Compton of Hendersonville, and Cindy Johnson of Columbia, SC; one grandson, William Johnson of Columbia, SC; and two granddaughters, Catherine Johnson of Columbia, SC, and Teal Alease Johnson of Greenville, SC; sister, Alice Jane Royal, of Salemburg, NC; and brothers, Lonnie Jackson Bass and Carl Bass of Clinton, NC, and Milton Bass of Stedman, NC. A funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 2, 2018 at Hendersonville''s First Baptist Church with the Rev. Wally Shamburger officiating.Burial will follow at Shepherd Memorial Park.The family will greet friends from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service at the church.Temples Halloran Funeral Home is assisting the family.
