IRMO—Funeral services for Albert L. Karst, 94, of Irmo, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Temples Halloran Funeral Home Chapel, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212.The Reverend Charles Wells will officiate.Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, 501 Elmwood Avenue, Columbia, SC 29201 with full military honors.The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at the funeral home. Mr. Karst passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2016.Born in Columbia, SC, he was the son of the late Gutlieb Karst and Rena Powers Karst.He proudly served in the United States Marines during WWII, then joined the United States Army and retired after 20 years of military service.Albert founded the Irmo Tae Kwan Do Club, for 12 years as owner and operator, he received the Governor Award for the Community Service by the Tae Kwan Do Club.He was a lifetime member of World Moo Sul Kwan Federation. Surviving are son, Albert L. Karst, Jr. (Cathy) Birmingham, Al; brother, John Edward Karst (Carolyn) of Columbia, SC; sister, Ottilie Karst Bowers, Coco Beach, FL; 3 grandchildren, Camille K. Uptain, Wayne Gregory Browder and Allison B. Taylor; five great-grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by 6 brothers, one sister, and second wife of 49 years, Erma McCracken Karst and first wife and mother of his children, Edna Presley Larson.
