Albert "Al" August Bucholz, 95, of Prosperity passed away on March 30, 2025. He was born on October 19, 1929 in Oil City, Pennsylvania to the late Zora Vandermark and Albert A. Bucholz, Sr.
Al served his country in the United States Navy for 30 years, beginning with his first assignment on the USS Nautilus as one of the first people trained in the use of the new nuclear-powered engine. He was the last surviving member of the Sea Dog and retired as LCDR of the USS Hunley. Al was honored to serve under the legendary Admiral Hyman G. Rickover during his military career. After retirement, Al kept fruit trees and a garden, sharing his bounties with his friends and neighbors. Al was a long-time member of Chapin Christian Community Church and was a member of the Men's Group.
In addition to his parents, Al was predeceased by the love of his life and wife of 64 years, Doris May Bucholz and his beloved brother, Bud Bucholz.
Those left to treasure his memory include his children, Wayne and Kee Bucholz, his sisters, Pat Young (Don) and Beverly Miller, six grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and seven nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, May 8, 2025 at Chapin Christian Community Church, 415 Lexington Avenue, Chapin, South Carolina, 29036 with Pastor Jody Flowers officiating. The family will greet friends from 2:00 PM until the hour of service. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the charity of one's choice.
