COLUMBIA—Betty Ann Johnson Eargle, widow of Oscar Lawrence Eargle, Jr., went to be reunited with him in their heavenly home on August 3, 2017.They were married for 68 years until his death in 2014.Betty was a loving wife and devoted mother of three children: Linda Crain, Mary Graham and Wayne Eargle (Melinda); 5 grandchildren, Melanie Blackwell (Troy), James Graham, Dr. Carly Chapman (Ashton), Brandon and Joshua Eargle; 4 great-grandchildren, Haley, Emily and James Blackwell, and Amelia Chapman who she loved dearly.She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.Betty was preceded in death by her husband, her mother and father, Bessie and Elmer Johnson as well as her 4 brothers, Louie, Clyde, Kay and Bob Johnson. Betty was an active member of Riverland Hills Baptist Church until recent years when there was a decline in her health.She was a member of the Faith Sunday School Class, where she served on various committees.At Christmas she enjoyed hosting parties for the class. Along with her husband and others, she helped found the JOY club and Oasis programs at the church.In earlier years Betty was a cosmetologist.She stopped her career to care for her children.She was an avid seamstress, collected and refinished antiques, created floral arrangements, and loved cooking, canning and freezing fresh vegetables from the garden.After her children were grown she worked as a fundraiser for the March of Dimes and Multiple Sclerosis Foundations.She helped in the renovations of various rental properties and their vacation home. She was a caregiver to elderly friends and devoted many years to the care of her beloved husband before his death.She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. These verses personify our mother; Proverbs 31:28 “Her children arise and call her blessed” and Proverbs 31:30 “A woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.” The family would like to thank the medical team and staff on the seventh floor, South Tower, of Lexington Medical Center for the compassionate, loving care provided to our mother.The concern and attention to her needs made a difference in her quality of life and the dignity in which she died.We also appreciate the many kindnesses you showed our family. Funeral services for Betty Ann Johnson Eargle, of Columbia, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at Temples Halloran Funeral Home, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212, The Reverend Dr. Tim Phillips will officiate. Burial will follow in Bush River Memorial Gardens. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
